thinking about the desert, the moon, the colors & energy of mexico city, the plants i meet everywhere, longing mountain views, astrology in the body and Hilma af Klint’s paintings for the future.
2/ Finding Mugwort at the Jardin Botánico
When I went to CDMX this time, my goal was to befriend a mugwort plant, and to make a series of prints based on this relationship. I looked in all the sidewalk cracks and the green spaces between busy streets, finding her eventually at the UNAM Botanic Garden.
While drawing the mugwort, i met an herbalist from my own hometown. She told me about matriamx herb shop and suggested i visit.
I made a day of visiting San Ángel and wandered into the Museo de El Carmen, where i stumbled into another beautiful garden and old paintings about - for me anyway - ✨spiritual ecstacy✨ - and sparked the idea for the image i finally made, about the ecstatic moment finding my friend mugwort in the garden
i drew out a big picture of the image and cut it up into small pieces so i could make my image in tile format, like some of the garden images i had seen across the city
3/ The Maguey Plant
This was the first time in a while I had made monoprints. Somewhere in the middle of the big Mugwort at the Jardin Botánico series, I got fixated on the one paper of the maguey plant, printing it over and over. This was the most experimental and most fun part of my whole time there, totally unexpected.
